FRM220-Data Fibre Optic Modem

The FRM220-DATA is a media converter for high-speed (up to 8.192Mbps) synchronous or low speed synchronous and asynchronous data transmissions (V.35, RS-232, RS-530, X.21 or RS-449) over fibre optical media. When the FRM220-DATA card is placed in the FRM220 rack with SNMP management, in-band management allows viewing the card and remote converters status, type, version, fibre link status, data link status and alarms. Both card and remote can be configured to enable or disable the port, reset the port, set the data rate, modify the clock mode, and initiate local or far end loopback tests. The FRM220-Data converter may also be paired with the FRM220-E1/T1 for Nx64K transmissions.

The FRM220-DATA is DCE / DTE selectable negating the need for those frustrating cross over cables. The unit has advanced clocking options that allows independent configuration of the transmit, receive and external clocks. This enables the unit to be simply integrated into scenarios where perhaps the clock rates are asymmetric or of different phase or in different directions. The unit also has the ability to pass the control signals end to end, as if the 2 end devices were directly connected via a copper cable. It is also possible to set the control signals constantly on or loop them if necessary (eg CTS locally looped to RTS).

The FRM220-DATA can be configured via on-board DIP switches or alternatively when used in conjunction with the NMC management card configuration and monitoring can be conducted via web based or SNMP management. Even the remote modem, at the far end of the fibre, can be configured and monitored via an embedded communications channel contained within the fibre link.

The unit can also inter-operate with the FRM220-E1/T1 in an n x 64Kbps manner. It is possible to have a FRM220-DATA at 1 end of the fibre and a FRM220-E1/T1 at the other. This provides not only data transmission across the fibre but interface conversion too!

The unit comes complete with an array of LED's indicating the status of both the fibre and serial interfaces and a whole host of test loops can be invoked in various directions on both ports to aid fault finding.
